Side hustles that don’t require any skills
If you enjoy being outdoors or want to get a bit more exercise you could start your own dog walking service. You’d be surprised how many people don’t have time to walk their dog. Especially if you live in a neighbourhood with plenty of dogs, this could be a lucrative side hustle.
Simply create a flyer for your service, add your rates and phone number and pop them in letterboxes in your area. You could also start a Facebook page for your service to create a following and for clients to contact you on. Or you could sign up to a site like WagWalking.com
If you love animals and you have room to look after them, you could try pet sitting for money.
I’ve done this myself several times and looked after a few dogs through Holidog.com. Especially when you work from home this is an easy way to make some extra money. You can set your own fees and the pet sitting website will take a one-off fee or a percentage. I made $25 AUD per day with this, so if you look after a dog for a week it adds up nicely.
Other pet sitting sites:
Rent out a Room
If you have a spare room, consider renting it out through Airbnb. You can mark it available or unavailable, so you only rent it out when it suits you. You could also rent out your whole house and go house sitting. Use a house sitter website like HouseSittersAmerica.com to find suitable places to stay at. This way you make money with Airbnb and you save money by house sitting for free.
Sell your Clothes
If you’re a bit of a fashionista and your wardrobe is popping at the seems, try selling some of your clothes online. This is a great way to make a bit of extra cash quickly and it cleans out your wardrobe at the same time. There are plenty of places to sell your clothes online and you’ll be surprised how easy it actually is.
Use the following sites to turn your wardrobe into a goldmine:
Drive for Uber or Lyft
If you live in an urban area, you could start your own taxi service with apps like Lyft or Uber. It’s free to sign up, all you need is a reliable car, meet the age requirements, have a smartphone and pass a background check. The best thing about this job is your flexible working hours. You can turn your availability on or off, allowing you to choose when you work.
Side hustles for creatives
Start a Blog
If you enjoy writing and helping others you could start a blog. A blog is a website on which you post articles about certain topics. You create a following by solving problems for your readers in a particular niche, like parenting, finance or travel.
You can make money on your blog through affiliate marketing, ads, offering services like coaching or virtual assistant, or selling courses or digital products.
If you would like to start a blog, I have a free course that walks you through every step of starting a money making blog.

Sell your Designs
If you’re a bit creative and you know how to create simple designs in Canva, Illustrator or Photoshop you can sell your designs online. With sites like Redbubble and Society6 you can simply upload your design once and sell products like stickers, T-shirts, posters and lots of other products over and over again.
The best thing about these websites is that they handle the product creation, shipping and returns, so you don’t have any ongoing work. This a real set-and-forget system and the money can keep rolling in for years to come. I set up a Redbubble account years ago and it’s still making me hundreds of dollars per year without doing a thing.
If you are a good photographer, you can turn this skill into a booming online business. You could start a photography blog in which you teach others your photographic tricks and techniques. Here’s some ways you could monetise your photography blog:
- sell online courses
- affiliate marketing for photographic equipment
- create an ebook
- sell stock photo subscriptions
- submit your work to stock photo sites like Shutterstock
Sell Handmade Items
If you’re a crafty person and you’re good at creating handmade items why not sell them online? Take beautiful photos of your products and upload them to Etsy. To be successful you have to promote your products on Pinterest by creating Pinterest pins for free in Canva.
If you want to learn how to start a successful Pinterest account that sends tons of traffic to your shop, take this in depth and super affordable Pinterest course.
You can also start a Facebook business page and/or group, an Instagram account and go to local markets.
Another awesome side hustle that has great potential to make good money is event planning. To be an event planner you obviously need organisational skills and people skills. It also helps if you work well under pressure and have the ability to stay calm when things don’t go as planned.
Make sure you have a business card and facebook page, because if your first event is a success, you’re likely to get requests for other work.
Specialist Side Hustles
If you have an eye for design you could start your own freelance design business. If you don’t have all the skills, simply enrol in an online course. You can find some great graphic design courses here. To sell your service it will be best to have your own website or you can freelance at sites like 99designs and Fiverr.
Becoming a web designer is a bit of a learning curve but it can be a very lucrative side hustle if you’re in it for the long haul. Start learning by creating a few practice websites in WordPress.org and take some web design courses to learn best practices and increase your knowledge.
Virtual assisting is quite a popular job amongst stay-at-home moms. Probably because you can choose any skills that you are good at, and offer them as a service.
Virtual skills you could offer are:
- social media management
- graphic design
- email marketing
- web design/maintenance
To be able to start a virtual assistant business it would help to have a blog in which you write about problems your ideal client might have. By promoting your blog posts, you will attract your ideal client to your blog.
If you have an eye for detail and you’re great at spelling and grammar you could offer proofreading and editing services. You could start your own business or you can find jobs on sites like Freelancer.com or Upwork.com.
Do you speak more than one language fluently? I grew up in Holland and now live in Australia, this gives me the accidental skill of being bilingual. Being bilingual is a skill you can monetise by offering translation services online. A good eye for detail and spelling is important because translations need to be accurate and without mistakes. There are several translation websites where you can sign up and offer your skills, like:
