What is a Rich Pin?
Rich Pins add more information to your pin from the website content it is linked to. If something changes on the original webpage, the Rich Pin information will update to reflect that change.
Rich Pins also show a bold title underneath the pin and include your Pinterest name and profile picture. Like this:
There are 3 types of Rich Pins:
- Article Pins
- Recipe Pins
- Product Pins
Article and recipe Rich Pins will update to reflect any edits you may make on your site. Product Rich Pins show the most up-to-date price, availability, and product information right on your Pin.
Why are Rich Pins important?
Pinterest is a search engine. To be successful on Pinterest you have to use keywords and key phrases in your pin titles and descriptions. This will let more people find your pin and click through to your website.
If you have Rich Pins enabled, your blog post title will automatically be attached to your pin. When you use keywords in your blog title, your Rich Pin has a better chance of getting found in Pinterest searches.
If you want to add pin descriptions and hashtags to your pin without using code, you should try a social sharing plugin.
I use Social Warfare and love how easy it is to add a description to my pins.
With your keywords added to the description and as hashtags, your pins are more likely to get found, clicked and saved.
The information added to Rich Pins stays with the pin when it is re-pinned. If you update the information in your post, the meta description or post title, ALL YOUR PINs will be updated as well. Also, the Rich Pin information cannot be changed by other pinners when re-pinning.
