How To Access Canva Templates

Did you just buy Canva templates but you’re not sure how to open the Canva link in the app?

To be able to access your Canva templates you need to login to Canva or if you don’t have an account yet, you can create a free Canva account here.

Once you have an account, you can click on the shared link and this will open the template in your account of the Canva app as shown in the image below. Click the purple button to access your template.

How To Edit Canva Templates

Once you’ve opened your Canva templates, you can start editing.

But before you make any changes to your Canva templates it’s important to save a copy first.

In the top menu, go to File > Make a copy, and then in the new document window that opens you need to rename your file. This ensures you don’t ruin your original template by saving over it.

If you’re working on a copy and you don’t like your edits, you can always revert back to the original file.

Canva Video Tutorial

Here’s a video tutorial where I open one of my Canva templates in the Canva dashboard and show you how to edit text, images, colours etc. Below this video I’ll also show how to edit your Canva templates in text format (in case you prefer that).

How to edit a photo in Canva

If you want to replace the photos in your template with your own photos, you can upload your own photos in the left menu under Uploads.

You can also replace the photos or image placeholders with photos from the Canva library.

To resize a photo while keeping the same dimensions,  you select it and drag the corner to make it smaller or bigger.

To crop a photo or change the photo’s dimensions, you grab a photo side in the middle and drag it.

How to edit Canva templates with multiple pages

Are you wondering how to edit a Canva document with multiple pages? Or how to change the layout of a template in Canva?

Then you’re going to love this Canva hack!

At the bottom of the Canva dashboard is a small square with a number in it. This number represents the number of pages in your Canva document. If you click on this square, a page like the image below will open up and you’ll be able to see all your template pages in one screen.

Now you can easily change your document layout by dragging pages to a different spot, deleting pages, duplicating pages, hiding pages or adding in new blank pages.

If you hover on a page, 3 dots will appear and when you click on this a menu box pops up with editing options.

To leave this page layout view, simply click on the same little page number square at the bottom of the page again.

How to change template size in Canva

To be able to resize your Canva document in one click you need to upgrade to Canva Pro (you can try Canva Pro for free for 30 days with this link.)

Technically you could resize your templates by creating a new Canva document in the size that you require and copy and paste all the pages over individually. This would be super tedious though for documents with lots of pages.

So if you want to save time, I recommend using Canva Pro for this.
