Blog Name Examples and domain name ideas for your blog

I may earn a small commission for affiliate links in this post at no extra cost to you. Please read my disclaimer  for more information.

Things to consider before choosing a blog name

Before you choose a name for your blog you need to know 2 things:

1. Your Blog Topic

To make sure your blog name is relevant, you need to know what your exact blog topic is.

If you need some blog topic inspiration, you can check out my Ultimate Blog Niche List here.

2. Your Target Audience

Just your blogging niche alone is not enough info for finding a suitable blog name. You’ll also need to know who your target audience is.

For instance, you could start a fitness blog, but it will make a huge difference if you write for men over 40 who want to build muscles or if your ideal readers are new moms with babies…

Even though your blog niche is fitness for both these blogs, the sub niche and target audience are completely different!

Once you know what your blog topic and target audience are, you can choose a blog name that is relevant and memorable.

Tips for naming your blog

To stop you from choosing a blog name you’ll regret later on, I’ve made a list of things to consider before buying your domain name:

1. Keep it short & simple

Your blog name should be short and simple, a short blog name sounds more catchy and will be easier to remember. One or two words is ideal or try to aim for 3 words max.

2. Make it memorable

If you want your blog visitors to remember you, it’s a good idea to pick a blog name that leaves an impression. Dare to be funny, unique or different, it will help your blog stand out.

For example: “Sally’s Baking Blog” sounds boring, but Sally’s Baking Addiction is a lot more interesting and memorable.

3. Stay relevant

Make sure that your blog name is relevant to your blog topic and audience.

4. Does it pass the phone test?

Your blog name should be easy to spell. You should be able to tell someone over the phone what your blog name is without having to spell it out. Hyphens, weird spelling and tricky words can lead to your blog name being misspelled and may result in people not finding your blog.

5. Does it look ok without spaces?

Always check what your blog name looks like without spaces. Words can appear that you never knew were there! Fun Kids Exercise won’t look great as: funkidsexercise.com

Examples of names that look terrible as domain names without spaces:

  • Mole Station Nursery – molestationnursery.com
  • Ben Dover – bendover.com
  • Therapist – therapist.com

6. Google your chosen blog name

Always look up your blog name in a search engine like Google to see what comes up. If there’s already another business with the same or similar domain name, it’s best not to pick this name. If they have trademarked their name, you could run into problems, plus you wouldn’t want to compete with an already existing blog.

You can check if your blog name has been trademarked here.

What is a domain name

Your domain name is your blog’s website address or url. This means your domain name is your blog name with an extension like .com or .co or .net etc. So if your blog name is Spicy Cucumber, your domain name would be www.spicycucumber.com.

In the list of blog name examples below, I’ve added the domain name examples as well.

How to choose a blog address or url

Once you’ve decided on a name for your blog, you need to make sure this name is available as a domain name or url. The most common domain extension is .com but if this is not available you could also choose .co.

However, as I mentioned earlier, before you buy a different extension than .com you have to make sure to search your blog name in Google and make sure that no one else is already using this name with the .com extension. You don’t want to get sued for using someone else’s blog name.

My blog address is sassyboss.co, I choose the .co extension because the .com extension was very expensive. I checked and no one was using the domain name sassyboss.com

To see if your chosen blog name is available with a .com extension, type it in the box below and hit the green button.

Best blog name examples

A great way to get inspiration for your blog name is by checking the blog names of successful bloggers.

Below you’ll find a list of the most unique and memorable blog names of well known blogs, and after that I’ve organised some more existing blog name examples and new blog name ideas organised by niche.

A lot of fashion bloggers use their personal name as their blog name.

Consider using your name as your blog name or just your first or last name and add one word.

Here’s a few examples of fashion blog names with personal names:

Katie’s Collection – www.katiescollection.com

Fabulously Bree – www.fabulouslybree.com

Sasha’s Style – www.sashasstyle.com

Personal blog name examples

If you’re struggling to find a blog name that has an available domain name, you might be able to use your own name. You could use your first and last name with a .com extension or you can either use your first or last name with another word or in a short sentence. Have a look below for examples of blog names using a personal name.

Existing Personal Blog Names With A Short Sentence:

What’s Katie Up To – www.whatskatieupto.com

Dan Flying Solo – www.danflyingsolo.com

Cup Of Jo – www.cupofjo.com

Backpacking Matt – www.backpackingmatt.com

Helene In Between – www.heleneinbetween.com

Personal Blog Names With Alliteration:

A great way to use your personal name in your blog name is by using alliteration.

Alliteration means the repetition of a letter or sound, here’s some examples:

Katie in Kansas

Words Of Williams

Nomadic Matt

Even though at first glance it might not look like the name Nomadic Matt is an example of alliteration, it definitely is because the MA of noMAdic and the MA of Matt creates the repetition in sound.

Try using  your name with a word that matches the first letter or sound of your name.

If your name starts with a D and you’re looking for a travel blog name, you could add the word destination after your name:

Delilah’s Destination – www.delilahsdestination.com

Danielle’s Destination – www.daniellesdestination.com

If your name start with an A or a similar sound you could add Adventures after your name:

Ally’s Adventures – www.allysadventures.com

Erica’s Adventures – www.ericasadventures.com

Instead of using your name you can also personalise your blog name with another characteristic of yourself. Here’s a few examples:

The British Backpacker

The Blonde Abroad

Tech Savvy Mama
